ANTLE, Betty Lou

ANTLE, Betty Lou — Age 67, of Beaver Bank, passed away March 2, 2010, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, after a courages battle with cancer. Born in Lower Sackville, she was a daughter of the late Alden and Beatrice (Roach) Stone. Betty Lou was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. She was a foster mother to over 55 children. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed knitting, find-a-word and diet coke. She is survived by her loving husband, Cyril Lively; daughters, Lisa Lively, Shawna Lively and Terria Sangster, all of Beaver Bank; sons, Gary (Scott) Kent of Fort McMurray, Alta.; Robbie (Dee dee) Lively of Lower Sackville; sisters, Dawn (Ken) Barrett of Beaver Bank; Glennie of Annapolis Valley; brother, David (Fran) Stone; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two on the way; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son, Ricky. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday with funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. CAMPBELL, Allan

CAMPBELL, Allan - Sep 05, 2011 James Donald, “Allan” Campbell, 76, Waverley, passed away peacefully on Sept 5., 2011 at the Halifax Infirmary. Allan was born July 4, 1935, the son of Allan and Lena (Lent) Campbell. He grew up in New Glasgow and moved to Toronto as a young man. In 1964 he married Agnes Carrigan and they began their life together in Sydney. Al was well known in the building supply industry, starting at the CO-OP in Sydney and later Moncton NB. In 1975 he moved his family to St. Stephen NB to work for Haley Building Supplies, eventually returning to Nova Scotia, and ended his career with Central Supplies in Antigonish after 25 years. After retirement Al and Aggie moved to Waverly to be closer to their grandchildren. Al was a dedicated husband and father and was known for his gentleness, his kind words and his friendly smile. He had a great passion for sports and participated in hockey, baseball and car racing in his youth. Al and Aggie raised their family and made many special friends in all the places they lived. Allan is survived by his daughters Paula Clark (Scott) and Catherine Campbell (Chris Wilson) and his grandchildren William and Sophie Clark, sister Jane Campbell (Calgary). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Agnes and his brothers Billy and Sandy and George in infancy. Funeral was held at the Church of The Holy Name, Westville. Interment in The Holy Name Cemetery. EVANS Joy M.R.

EVANS, Joy M.R. – 84, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011, in the VG Site, QEII. Joy arrived in Nova Scotia from England with husband Elfed and son Michael in the spring of 54, then moved to Waverly, adding Alison and Shelley to the family. Joy was very proud of her children’s accomplishments and enjoyed her four grandchildren. She belonged to Wellington United Church. In 1974 Joy donated her body upon her passing to Dalhousie Anatomy Dept. For educational use but due to the Pathology Department and the Brain bank. A celebration of her life was held in Fall River United Church. A private family interment at a later date. Donations may be given to Wellington United Church and Canadian Cancer Society. Heartfelt thanks to doctors and staff of 5A and to friends and neighbours for their care and kindness.

HUNTER, Helen Catherine

HUNTER, Helen Catherine — 88, died peacefully in Middle Musquodoboit Memorial Hospital. Helen was a daughter of Sarah and Foster Boutilier (Crawford) of Windsor Junction. Helen lived her life in the Windsor Junction/Fall River area. She is survived by her son, Allen Hunter (Margaret); granddaughter, Cathie O'Toole, great-grandson, Andrew O'Toole; daughter, Gail; grandsons, Dove and Aaron; great-grandchildren, Ella and Leo. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Cox of Sechelt, B.C. She was predeceased by brothers, Mark, Ralph and Ernie; sister, Peg Kennedy. Helen was a federal civil servant for over 30 years, employed with the HMCS Dockyards. She was a member of St. John's United Church UCW in Windsor Junction, and also attended Lucasville United Baptist Church. She was active in the community with the Senior Citizen's Friendly Group, the Easter Star, and the Historical Society. She was a fun and loving person, and will be greatly missed. A celebration of her life was held on May 8, in St.Thomas Anglican Church in Fall River, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Marion Conrad presiding. No flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Musquodoboit Memorial Hospital Foundation (Braeside), 126 Higginsville Rd., Middle Musquodoboit, B0N 1X0.

MACDONALD, Duncan Walter Thomas

MACDONALD, Duncan Walter Thomas - 70, Enfield, formerly of Fall River, passed away September 11, 2011, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Duncan and Hatti Blanch MacDonald. Duncan was a plumber by trade until retirement. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. his passion was working with wood. Duncan enjoyed going to his friend's cottage in Musquodoboit and Parrsboro, where he spent many enjoyable hours fishing and enjoying his cherished friends. He is survived and will be missed by his best friend. Darlene Pearce and her children, Amanda and Brandon; the Brackett Family and all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn (Hilchie) MacDonald. A celebration of life was held at the residence of Darlene, 24 Matador Ct., Lower Sackville. Donations in memory may be made to the heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

MACPHEE, Hilda Etta - On Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at the Magnolia Continuing Care of Hilda E. MacPhee, of Enfield, N.S., and formerly of New Dominion, P.E.I., in her 99th year. Mother of Ferne Finlaison of Calgary, AB, and Heather Brown of Fall River, N.S. Grandmother to Lowell (Lori Ann) MacPhee, Cammy (Jim) Barber, Ken (Kim) MacLeod, Jodi (Steve) Warren, Ronald Finlaison, and Carolyn Finlaison (Michael Lynn). Also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, Campbell MacPhee; son, Bruce; son-in-law, Guy Brown; sisters, Annie (Dan) MacDougall and Sadie MacNevin; brother, Leonard (Myrtle) MacNevin; parents, Hector and Emma (MacQuarrie) MacNevin; and sister-in-law, Ann (Stewart) Moore. Funeral service was held at the Cutcliffe Funeral Home. Interment at New Dominion United Church Cemetery. Porter, Donald Willis Sr.

Porter, Donald Willis Sr. – 84 Hantsport, passed away Friday March 19, 2010 , in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Falmouth, he was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Dorthy (Demings) Porter in July 1996. Dad began his career in sales at age 17, working for his uncle, George Lenihan in Kentville. He and Mum were married in hantsport in October 1949, and beginning in January 1950, he worked for Hants Wholesalers in Windsor and then Halifax. In 1965, he made the move to CKF Inc., from where he retired as sales manager Atlantic in 1989. He was devoted to supporting his wife and family. Visits from grandchildren and more recently , great-grandchildren were cherished. He always looked forward to his visits to his second family at Randg’s Family Restaurant for coffee and conversation, where he spent many enjoyable hours. Anyone who knew Dad was aware of his passion for the stock market, his love of playing solitare, and his ability to keep winning at cribbage until the very end. Surviving are his daughter, Andrea Porter Stevens, Hantsport; sons, Donald Jr. Halifax; Cameron (Valerie), Port Williams; Judson ( Debbie Lloyd) London U.K. grandsons, Jamie (Stewart Legere) Stevens and Bobby (Janice) Stevens, all of Halifax; great-grandsons, Lawson Robert and Owen Porter; former son-in-law, Danny (Jessie) Stevens, Beaver Bank; sisters, Olive Dodge, Windsor, Rachel Sheehy, Falmouth; Maxine (Dr. Beverly) Trask Sydney; brother, Ed, Falmouth; sisters-in-law, Edna Porter and Olive Porter, both of Windsor; Beryl Chipman, HantBorder; Evelyn (Robert) Walsh, Hantsport; Shirley Starratt, Leduc, Alta; brothers-in-law, Charles “Bud” Dodge, Ronald Sheehy, Walter Chipman and sisiter in law Shiley Porter.. SAMSON, Joseph Douglas

SAMSON, Joseph Douglas - Age 51 of Beaver Bank, formerly of Louisdale, Cape Breton, passed away suddenly September 7th, 2011. Born in Arichat, he was a son of the late Paulie and Jeanette (Marchand) Samson. He was a member of the International Boiler Makers and employed with Woodside Industries. He was an avid wrestling and hockey fan and his favorite team was the Montreal Canadiens. One of his greatest joys was cooking for his family. He is survived by his best friend and mother of his children, Nadine (MacLeod) Samson; daughters, Holly (Shawn), Ashleigh (Josh), Kaylea (Donna); sister, Paula (Doug Dicks); brothers, Ronnie (Bernadette) Samson and David (Corrine) Samson; grandchildren, Riley and Camden Marchand; many nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Predeceased by sister, Beverley Ann; grandparents, Mary Louise, Daniel “Dano” Marchand; Edgar and Elizabeth Samson; uncle, Alphonse Samson. STELLER (Mitton), Janet Ruth — 47, Terra Cotta, Ont. It is with profound sadness that we announce that Janet Steller, mother, wife, daughter and sister, passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2010. Janet was in the cherished company of her devoted husband Tom and surrounded by family when she slipped away after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, Janet moved to Ontario with her family where she forged many lifetime friendships, completed high school, graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Commerce and Masters in Business Administration and met and married the love of her life. Her sons, Michael and Matthew are a fine testament to her commitment as a mother and the unconditional love and support that she provided. Both the Steller family and the Mitton family will remember Janet with fondness and inspiration. Janet...we will miss your strength, your compassion for others, and your humour! WALLACE, Daniel

WALLACE, Daniel – 84, Beaver bank, passed away Monday, September 5, 2011, in Beaver bank. Born in Ireland, he immigrated to Canada from Ireland where he met his wife, also from Ireland. They lived in Toronto starting their family there. He then moved his family to Nova Scotia, settling in Beaver Bank after retirement. He worked hard selling pharmaceuticals on the road until retirement. He enjoyed staying active in the church, his friendly rivalry card games and his outings at the Brown Hall, which he was very glad to have seen recently re-opened after the fire. He will be sadly missed by his faithful companion “Winnie”, his Jack Russell. He is survived by his daughter, Valerie, Halifax; sons, Daniel, Lower Sackville; Brian, Okotoks, Alta; Samuel, Lower Sackville; Bret, Windsor Junction; sister, Effie, Ireland; brother, Mervin, Ireland; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Bette; brother, Samuel. Funeral service was held in First Sackville Presbyterian Church, 60 Beaver Bank Dr. Lower Sackville. Interment in Fernwood Memorial Park. Wyatt, Freda Edna B.

Wyatt, Freda Edna B. – 92, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully March 24, 2010, in Parkland Estates, Halifax. Born in Windsor Junction, she was a daughter of the late William and Lillian (Lee) Parnell. Freda lived in Halifax for many years and was a faithful member of St. Phillips Anglican Church and the A.C.W She was a homemaker who loved baking, needlework, and caring for plants, her favourite being the African Violet. In their retirement, Freda and her late husband, Verne also enjoyed traveling in their motor home. Freda spent many enjoyable summers in her trailer at Sherwood Forest campground, Coldbrook. For the past 21 years, she had lived with her daughter Faye and family in Dartmouth, and was dedicated member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Dartmouth. Freda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by daughter, Faye (Glenn Murphy); sons Warren (Lorraine Jones), Charles (Barbara Judge), John (Marie Samson); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Freda was predeceased by her husband, William Verne “Babe”; sisters, Margaret (Merta) Dyer, Violet Boutilier; Thelma Davidson , Frances May, Olive Sheehen; brothers, George Parnell, Douglas Parnell, and daughter in law, Marsha. Visitation held in JA Snow Funeral Home. Funeral service held March 27 in St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Veteran’s Avenue, Dartmouth, Rev. Carolyn Tomlin Officiated.
