Injury bug taking its toll
Pat Healey

FALL RIVER: The Lockview High School Dragons girls’ basketball team continues to be plagued by injuries, and that was nowhere more evident than the Miller Bowl, held Jan. 29-30, at the school.
While the team may not have been successful on the court, losing all three games they played, it was an overall success, head coach Sean Hanlon said.
The two day tournament featured six teams from across Nova Scotia and they included Halifax West, the eventual champions, C.P. Allen, Sydney Academy, Horton High and Parkview Education Centre.
The Dragons first faced Parkview, and lost by 22, 75-53, then fell 68-36 to Sydney Academy. In the fifth place game, they cut the deficit, but still wound up on the losing end, falling 65-47 to C.P. Allen.
“We were short-handed once again this weekend and some players were unable to play,” Hanlon said. “We have had a very difficult season in the injury department and have played the majority of the last two months with just seven players.”
He said despite the shortened bench, the majority of the games were fairly competitive, which resulted in the fans being treated to some great hoops action.
“Our team was lead by Rebecca Woodside and rookie Megan Thompson, who stepped up and lead while our bench was short-handed,” he added. “You never want to play with a short bench but it sometimes gives other players time to get more minutes than usual.”
He hopes his team is done with the injury bug
“Hopefully we can get healthy and back on track for a good playoff run,” Hanlon said.
