LAKEVIEW: A not guilty plea was entered Jan. 14, by a Lakeview man in connection with charges of accessing, possessing and distributing child pornography. RCMP charged Steven Robert Harten, in March 2009 following the execution of a search warrant on his home on Lakeview Road, in Lakeview. The Crown alleges shared folders on the 51-year-old Harten's computer included 50 soft-core pornographic images of girls who were between the ages of eight and 15. Harten entered his pleas in Dartmouth Provincial Court by Nova Scotia Legal Aid lawyer Jill Lacey. Trial dates of Dec. 15-16 were set by Judge Alanna Murphy. Harten is free on an undertaking. Among those conditions include not being allowed to have contact with children under 16-years-of-age, with the exception of his son, unless in the company of a parent or guardian. He is also banned from being within 50 metres of playgrounds, school yards and other places children may frequent and from having access to the Internet. When the alleged offences occurred, Harten had been serving a one-year conditional sentence for growing marijuana. He has been charged with breaching that sentence by failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour by the federal Crown attorney.
