MIDDLE SACKVILLE: Halifax District RCMP found a lot more then they were hoping for when they executed a search warrant on a residence on Springfield Lake Road, in Middle Sackville, on Jan. 13. During the search, which occurred at about 10 p.m., RCMP seized 200 grams of marijuana, five grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and dismantled a complex hydro-grow operation for marijuana with 18 starter plants. Police arrested five adult males and one adult female at the scene without incident. Four of the males and the female have been released to appear in court at a later date and will be charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana and cultivation of marijuana. Cpl. Joe Taplin, media spokesman for Halifax District RCMP, said a fifth male, a 37-year-old man, was being held because he’s wanted in the United States on numerous outstanding warrants. The man, who isn’t a Canadian citizen, was held for an appearance at Dartmouth Provincial Court Jan. 14, on charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana, cultivation of marijuana, personation, forgery and the outstanding U.S. warrants. The man will be extradited on those warrants, Cpl. Taplin said.
