Impaired driver, theft keep RCMP busy

LOWER SACKVILLE: Halifax District RCMP had a busy night in Lower Sackville on Jan. 4-5, dealing with two separate incidents, including impaired driving. In a news release, RCMP said they responded to a report of theft and threats from the Esso Service Station, on Sackville Drive, in Lower Sackville, at about 11:50 p.m. “A male walked into the convenience store and started to place items into his pocket. The employee asked him to remove them,” Cpl. Joe Taplin, media spokesperson for Halifax District RCMP, said. “At this time, the male removed some items and placed another item in his pocket and stated he would return with a knife and threaten the employee.” The suspect, who fled on foot, is described as in his 20's, five-foot-four with dark hair and was wearing a black toque and jacket. In the second incident, a 55-year-old female was one of three impaired drivers arrested, thanks to members of the public calling 911. At 12:09 a.m., on Jan. 5, a citizen phoned police to report a driver of a Hyundai appeared impaired on Sackville Drive. RCMP located the vehicle on Langevin Drive, in Lower Sackville, Cpl. Taplin said. She was arrested for impaired driving. The other drivers arrested were a 20-year-old female on Peggy’s Cove Road and a 58-year-old man arrested in a St. Margaret’s Bay Road incident. All three drivers have been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level more than 80 mgs. The release added the three were all released to appear in court at later dates.
