BEAVER BANK: A single-storey mobile home located in the Woodbine Trailer Park, in Beaver Bank, was extensively damaged in a fire Jan. 29 The fire at the home was reported to Regional dispatch at 3:40 p.m. HRM Station 8 (Bedford), Station 9 (Sackville), Station 10 (Sackville), Station 11 (Sackville), the Tactical unit from Station 12 (Dartmouth), the platoon chief and district chief responded to the call. Mike LeRue, Divisional Chief with Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Services, said the fire service received an update from the home owner as they were en route to the scene that everyone had escaped from the burning trailer. “Upon arrival, we saw heavy smoke coming from all the eaves,” LeRue said. “Because HRM is all friendly we don’t need to call for mutual aid. When a structure fire comes in they automatically dispatch other units right around the area where the fire is.” At the scene there were 26 firefighters, LeRue said, ranging from Engine 8, Engine 9, Engine 9a, Tanker 10 and Tanker 11. He added the early indications are that the fire began in the kitchen, but where exactly remains a mystery. “We don’t have a set down cause,” he said. “The fire investigators believe it’s either from the toaster oven or the plug that was going into it. Because of the damage they couldn’t tell.” LeRue said insurance agents are working with the homeowner to determine the exact damage cost. “I assume from the sounds of things it was pretty heavily damaged,” LeRue said. “I don’t even know if the home is repairable. The insurance company would determine that.” phealey@enfieldweeklypress.com
