Groups encourage to apply for HRM grants
Pat Healey

FALL RIVER: Barry Dalrymple is looking for a few good non-profit organizations in District 2.
The councillor for District 2 (Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank) is encouraging any volunteer-based organization or even minor sports teams who are interested in a 2010 Halifax Regional municipality grant to apply.
At a recent meeting, Dalrymple, who is on the HRM grants committee, explained exactly what the process to apply for a grant is to about 20 people.
“I ran out of the application forms I had, but now I have more with me,” he said. “The deadline for applying is March 28, so any groups that have yet to obtain those forms and information packages, get a hold of me because I do have them. I’m certainly willing to meet folks and explain the process.”
Dalrymple said in 2009 he decided to bring a box of applications and information packages to the area, where he handed them out. They quickly disappeared.
“I’ve said this often in the HRM, and in the past these grant forms and booklets have come out once a year and were placed at our service spot in Halifax and Dartmouth,” Dalrymple added. “That does nothing for the residents of District 2.”
But with him brining them out, along came a change of the guard.
“We had tremendous success with various groups out here getting HRM grants,” he said. “I’ve done the same thing this year. I want groups out here to understand they have access to them.”
Groups looking for more information or to apply can contact Dalrymple at 860-6022 or by e-mail at Barry.Dalrymple@halifax.ca.
