Centre rebuild delayed; fundraising ball tournament June 11-13
Pat Healey

BEAVER BANK: The redesign of the Beaver Bank-Kinsac Community Centre will mean a delay in its construction, the area councillor said.
Barry Dalrymple, the representative for District 2 servicing Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank, said the architectural design tender has been sent out by Halifax Regional Municipality. However, with the building being expanded, it will mean the September 2010 date many had circled won’t be met.
“There’s about 4,000 square feet of extra space added, which is fantastic for the community,” Dalrymple said. “The meetings on this continue. We are all cognizant of getting this up and running as quickly as possible. We all know what it means to the community. However… it’s going to take a little bit longer. I said a few months ago we’re looking at April 2011 and that’s probably right on target.”
He has held meetings with HRM Mayor Peter Kelly, CAO Dan English and staff with infrastructure services about the timelines.
Dalrymple said a slo-pitch ball tournament will be held at the ballfields on the Beaver Bank Commons as part of the ongoing fundraising effort. It is scheduled for June 11-13.
“We’re looking for all active teams,” he said
The 25-and-over tournament is mixed, so teams must have at least three girls on the field at any time and each team is allowed two have two players under 25 years of age. An alcohol-free barbecque will be setup on site.
Anybody interested in obtaining more information or registering a team can do so by contacting Dalrymple at lwfbaseball@hotmail.com.
