Legion fraud case delayed to mid-June
WAVERLEY: The former president of the Waverley Legion has seen his case on fraud charges delayed a month. During his court appearance May 13 in Dartmouth Provincial Court, Ronald Banks of Windsor Junction was informed that, because of a change in the Crown Attorney overseeing the case, his case would be remanded until the middle of June. It’s the second delay in the case after the former president of the Legion was originally scheduled to go to trial April 13, but was arraigned on the charges. He has yet to enter a plea on charges of pocketing $27,000 over a four-to-five-year period from the Royal Canadian Legion in Waverley. He was arrested by the RCMP Fraud Squad after they were alerted that a large amount of money was missing from the legion’s bank accounts in July 2008. Banks is also facing a breach of trust charge.
