Waverley ballfield secures funding

WAVERLEY: The provincial government has approved a request for funding to install power at the new site of the Waverley baseball field. District 2 councillor Barry Dalrymple confirmed the government’s Department of Health Protection and Promotion will announce they are funding the project to the tune of $100,000. An announcement on the funding is expected to be made next week by Dalrymple, Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank NDP MLA Percy Paris and Minister of Health Maureen MacDonald. An exact date, time and location hasn’t been finalized. “The letter from the province to the HRM was mailed today (June 10) confirming the funding,” Dalrymple said. He said the money will be used to bring in the required power for the lights. The power will also allow TreeGO to move a step further to fruition. It’s expected the zip line fun adventure park will be open by the fall. “It will benefit both,” Dalrymple said of the power. “This will get the power in there. We still have to save enough money on building the ballfield to be able to outfit the outfield lights.” The ballfield is expected to be ready for its first pitch next spring, Dalrymple said. phealey@enfieldweeklypress.com
